Flamingo Cupcakes

For Haley's 6th Birthday I decided to take a break from cakes and try some cupcakes.  Haley picked out the flamingos from one of my Hello, Cupcake books.  We made enough for her to take into school for her birthday.  They turned out adorable, but they're definitely not something you want to try to do in one sitting.

On our first try, we got a little excited and tried decorating the cupcakes before they cooled off.  Since the wings were made of chocolate, they melted, and flopped over.  That made the girls happy because it meant they could eat them now!  We always eat mistakes, that way I don't mind messing things up.

My Butterflies

Here are my two favorite monarch butterflies.  So excited to go trick-or-treating!  We went to my parents for Halloween this year, the girls were thrilled because they got to go with their cousins.

I had fun making these costumes.  I bought the orange and black wings at Jo-Ann Fabrics and added my own white dots at the edges.  We also used black leotards that I trimmed with little black feather boas at the neckline and around their wrists.  I made Kayla a tutu with some bright orange fabric and netting.  Haley preferred a black ballet tutu that she had.

For their headbands, I re-purposed some old headbands from a birthday party.  I added some butterflies from Michaels and some wired crystals for sparkle.  I used some of the leftover black feather boa to top off their antenna.

Little Mermaid Cake

Kayla wanted a "Little Mermaid" Cake for her third birthday.  I wasn't up for fashioning my own Ariel, so we used one of her toy figures and set it on top of a fondant rock.  I believe we used a toy Sebastian and a little seahorse too.  We had a really fun time making up the rest of the cake with fondant.  We made a turtle, an octopus, a snail, starfish, a clam, and lots of coral.
